What is leisure?

FREEDOM; By your own ability to CHOOSE the activities YOU can decide what helps YOU the most at almost any given time.

Types of positive leisure:


  1. Creative cost effective leisure:

  • Doodling/drawing/coloring: Mandalas, zentangles, other patterns, nouns, adjectives, etc.

  • Painting: Rock/shell painting, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, gouache painting, etc.

  • Sculpting: Homemade/found clay, paper mache, etc.

  • Writing/poetry: Letters, poems, journal prompts, music making, etc.

  • Cooking: Even if it's as simple as microwaving some ramen or if you want to go-Gordon Ramsey pro!

  • Visual journaling: a visual form of your typical written journal of your thoughts, feelings, ideas, etc.

  • Photography

2. Physical/Active leisure:

  • Walking/jogging/hiking/running

  • Yoga/stretching

  • Dancing

  • Cleaning/reorganizing your space

  • Gardening/farming

3. Passive leisure:

  • Watching TV/Youtube/social media/etc.

  • Listening to music/podcasts/audiobooks

  • Google/internet surf to learn

  • Meditation

  • Reading books, blogs, magazines, etc.


4. Social leisure:

  • Spending time with friends, family and furry friends

  • Writing to friends, family, etc.

  • Join a support group

5. Cognitive leisure:

  • Reading/learning

  • Puzzles/sudoku/word games

  • Card games/board games

  • Creating/studying flashcards/Quizlet(s)

  • Taking notes on topics of interests
